Entropy
The term 'entropy' comes from thermodynamics and refers to the decrease in usable energy within a thermodynamic system. We use the word entropy in combination with organizations: for us, cultural entropy is the energy lost in an organization.
Examples of cultural entropy include employee frustration, expressions of dissatisfaction with inefficiency and procedures, uncertainty about the direction or a feeling of insecurity. Do you feel that there is a lot of frustration within your organization or team? Are there many conflicts in the workplace? Are employees demotivated or disengaged? Then it is likely that the cultural entropy within your organization is high.
How do you reduce cultural entropy within your team or organization?
Cultural entropy, in short, is energy that is not used for innovation and results. Entropy is a hindrance to your development and growth. Cultural entropy obstructs fun & (team) flow, causing people to drift away from their own intrinsic motivation to work towards team and organizational objectives. This does not take you to the destination on the horizon where you want to go with your organization. And that is a shame. Waste of money. Waste of talent. Waste of energy. We believe that cultural entropy should be between 0 and 10%.
So, do you want to:
- Increase the motivation of your employees?
- Improve communication within your organization?
- Resolve conflicts?
- Improve or change the organizational culture?
- Improve collaboration within or between teams?
- Improve employee engagement?
